The University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is the only super-maximum care medical facility in Rhineland-Palatinate and an internationally recognized scientific location.
Medical care at the highest university level: More than 60 specialist clinics, institutes and departments belong to the Mainz University Medical Center. With around 7,500 employees, it is one of the largest employers in the region and an important driver of growth and innovation. Comprehensive modernization and reform processes have been initiated in order to be able to react to changing framework conditions and take on new tasks in the healthcare sector. Reforms in human resources management form part of this. With self-service offerings, the Mainz University Medical Center enables its employees to access their personal data and time accounts from anywhere and at any time.
Background to the introductory project at the Mainz University Medical Center
In order to be able to react to the changed framework conditions and growing challenges in the healthcare sector, Mainz University Medical Center has also reformed its human resources management.
To support this, SAP ERP Human Capital Management Self Services were implemented with the help of projekt0708, an IT service provider specializing in SAP solutions.
Aim of the transformation process
The following objectives were pursued for the technical implementation of the business processes under SAP HCM:
- Increasing data quality by replacing paper-based forms and reducing redundant personnel data entry and maintenance while simultaneously reducing costs in this area
- Accelerated, lean and standardized HR processes through efficient self-service offerings and workflow support
- Increased employee satisfaction as a result of improved transparency and flexibility
The advantages of transformation
The benefits of the transformationThe introduction of SAP HCM Self-Services results in benefits for employees and managers alike. In general, paper forms are eliminated thanks to electronic HR processes, which shortens processing times. This also reduces the error rate and susceptibility to errors. In particular, automated salary statements and self-services for time booking corrections and absence requests save time and money. As a result, employee satisfaction is expected to increase thanks to specific automated self-service solutions for each workplace.
The result
Employees of the Mainz University Medical Center are now able to access their personal data easily and conveniently via the NetWeaver Business Client software. Employees without their own system access (e.g. nursing staff) can log in via specially set up kiosk terminals. Using a personal profile, employees can call up their own duty rosters and time accounts and create and forward attendance and absence requests as well as duty requests. Managers use Manager Self Services to call up their employees' HR data (such as organizational assignment, attendance and absence times, remaining holiday entitlement, etc.). Managers can also view and approve requests for leave, flexitime and working from home.
